The King writes to the Residents at a Care Home In Essex

His Majesty the King has written directly to the residents at Old Shenfield Place Care Home in Brentwood Essex
Brentwood care home receives a regal surprise after a heartfelt birthday gesture to His Majesty the King.
There was a buzz of excitement at Old Shenfield Place Care Home in Brentwood this week, as residents received something truly special in the post: a letter from Buckingham Palace!
The royal correspondence arrived in response to a joyful project launched by the residents to celebrate.
His Majesty the King’s recent birthday. Patriotic and proud, the residents – many of whom have lived through decades of royal milestones – wanted to show their heartfelt appreciation and admiration for the monarch.
To mark the occasion, the care home held a friendly internal competition, inviting all residents to create their own birthday cards for the King. With the support of the care team, they spent days designing and crafting their entries, featuring hand-painted scenes, touching messages, and even a few bits of royal-themed poetry.
After much excitement and admiration for everyone’s efforts, Beryl’s beautifully illustrated card was voted the winner by fellow residents and staff – and it was her design that was selected to be sent to Buckingham Palace.
What happened next left everyone beaming.
A few weeks later, a letter from the Palace arrived, addressed to the residents of Old Shenfield Place. It contained a message of warm thanks from His Majesty himself, expressing gratitude for their thoughtful gesture. The King had especially admired Beryl’s winning card, adding to the pride and joy felt throughout the home.
Staff and residents gathered in the lounge for the reading of the letter, which has now taken pride of place in the home’s reception area. It’s a proud moment not just for Beryl, but for everyone who took part in the project.
“Every single resident poured so much love and thought into their cards,” said Care Home Manager Cristina. “It’s wonderful to see their creativity and spirit being recognised like this. It’s moments like these that bring everyone together and remind us all of the joy that can be found in later life.”
The residents, known for their community spirit and love of tradition, are already dreaming up their next big creative venture. Some are even wondering what might happen if they sent Christmas cards to the Palace!
You’re never too old to make a royal impression.
