Rosebank Steals the Show at the Bampton Shirt Race
Rosebank Care Home had a brilliant day at the Bampton Shirt Race, sponsoring the much-loved community event, coming away with the award for Best Fancy Dress.
The team’s entry, a Mad Hatters Chariot dreamed up and built by Head of Maintenance Tim, attracted plenty of admiring looks as it made its way through the race.
Kate, Vanessa, Teresa, Paige and Tim tackled the course during a major heatwave with plenty of energy and good humour and, for good measure, they also completed the traditional eight pints along the route.

The Bampton Shirt Race is organised by SPAJERS (The Society for the Preservation of Ancient Junketing and Entertaining Races). It raises money to support older residents in the village through local community initiatives and welfare support. Hundreds of people lined the streets throughout the day, creating a brilliant atmosphere from start to finish.
Rosebank’s Lifestyle Team also set up a hydration station outside the care home during the race, handing out water, refreshments and sweetie bags to competitors along the route — on one of the hottest days of the year, it’s fair to say it went down very well.
Kate, Rosebank’s Community Engagement Manager, said:
“The support from the community was absolutely amazing. Seeing hundreds of people lining the streets cheering everyone on made the day really special. We received so many lovely compliments about our Mad Hatters Chariot, and winning the Best Fancy Dress award was the perfect end to such a fantastic event.”

Residents, staff and supporters turned out in force to cheer the team on, and the community spirit on the day, filled with laughter and teamwork, really did speak for itself. Rosebank has been full of praise for the SPAJERS organisers for putting on such a great event.
The 2027 race is already in their sights, so watch this space!
